dhēṇḍa (धेंड).—sometimes dhēṇḍēṃ n A term for a huge, monstrous, burly person. Ex. ananta brahmāṇḍēṃ ēkyā rōmīṃ aisēṃ dhēṇḍa ||. 2 fig. A term for a man of high renown and honor (for excellence of any kind); a prodigy of learning; a puissant hero; a paragon of perfection. 3 Applied also to an idiotic or half-witted person.

dhēṇḍā (धेंडा).—m ( A) On the day on which the bride proceeds to the bridegroom's house, a person, carrying both the bride and bridegroom, one on each hip, dances about with them, invoking the tutelar deities of the family. He is named dhēṇḍā. Pr. ṭāḷa gēlā māndaḷa gēlā mājhā dhēṇḍā nāñcūṃ dyā. Used where one is seeking to do a thing for which the season is passed away. See phrases under jhēṇḍā.
