Source: archive.org: TrisastisalakapurusacaritraDharmacakravāla (धर्मचक्रवाल) refers to a type of penance, according to chapter 5.2 [śāntinātha-caritra] of Hemacandra’s 11th century Triṣaṣṭiśalākāpuruṣacaritra: an ancient Sanskrit epic poem narrating the history and legends of sixty-three illustrious persons in Jainism.—(Note: The penance dharmacakravāla starts with a three-day fast, then a fast-breaking day, then 37 fasts of one-day alternating with fast-breaking days, then a three-day fast and a fast-breaking day, making a total of 82 days for the series. cf. Tapāvalī, p. 5.).
