Source: Wisdom Library: Maha Prajnaparamita SastraDeśanavikolana (देशनविकोलन) or Deśavilokana refers to the “examination of place” and represents one of the “four examinations” (vilokana) that the Buddha made before entering birth from the Tuṣita heaven, according to the 2nd century Mahāprajñāpāramitāśāstra (chapter VII).—“What is the examination of place (deśana-vikolana)? The Buddhas are always born in Madhyadeśa, for it abounds in gold and silver, precious substances, foods, picturesque places, and its ground is pure”.
Mahayana (महायान, mahāyāna) is a major branch of Buddhism focusing on the path of a Bodhisattva (spiritual aspirants/ enlightened beings). Extant literature is vast and primarely composed in the Sanskrit language. There are many sūtras of which some of the earliest are the various Prajñāpāramitā sūtras.
