地方議會 [de fāng yì huì] [de fang yi hui]—
An assembly (議會 [yi hui]) composed of representatives (代表 [dai biao]) elected by local citizens (地方公民 [de fang gong min]) to supervise the administrative affairs (行政事務 [xing zheng shi wu]) of the local government (地方政府 [de fang zheng fu]). For example, the New Taipei City Council (新北市議會 [xin bei shi yi hui]) and the Hsinchu County Council (新竹縣議會 [xin zhu xian yi hui]). For example: "The councilors (議員 [yi yuan]) of the ruling party (執政黨 [zhi zheng dang]) hold the majority of seats (多數席次 [duo shu xi ci]) in the local council, gaining a dominant position (主導地位 [zhu dao de wei])."
