道心 [dao xin]—The mind which is bent on the right way, which seeks enlightenment. A mind not free from the five gati, i.e. transmigration. Also 道意 [dao yi].

道信 [dao xin]—Daoxin was the Fourth Patriarch (第四祖 [di si zu]) of Chan Buddhism (禅宗 [chan zong]) in the Eastern Land (东土 [dong tu]). He inherited the Dharma from Sengcan (僧璨 [seng can]) and transmitted it to Hongren (弘忍 [hong ren]). A branch, the Niutou Mountain (金陵牛头山 [jin ling niu tou shan]) lineage in Jinling, also emerged from his teachings. He passed away in the xinhai year of the Yonghui reign during the Tang Emperor Gaozong's rule (651 AD), at the age of seventy-two. See Chuan Deng Lu (传灯录 [chuan deng lu]), Volume 3.
道信—【人名】禪宗東土之第四祖也。嗣法於僧璨，傳於弘忍，傍出金陵牛頭山之一系。唐高宗永徽辛亥寂，壽七十二。見傳燈錄三。

道心 [dao xin]—Dàoxīn — [Term] (術語 [shu yu]) Refers to the mind of the five paths (五道 [wu dao]). In the Guījìng Yí (歸敬儀 [gui jing yi]), it states: "If meritorious karma (福業 [fu ye]) is not accomplished, dàoxīn has no bearing." It is also the mind that seeks Bodhi (菩提 [pu ti]). The Tang Dynasty (唐 [tang]) Huáyán Jīng (華嚴經 [hua yan jing]) Chapter 13 states: "Universally observe sentient beings (眾生 [zhong sheng]) to arouse dàoxīn." The Fǎhuá Jīng Yìshū (法華經義疏 [fa hua jing yi shu]) Volume 2 states: "Bodhi, meaning 'the Way' (道 [dao]), is the unsurpassed, perfectly and universally enlightened path to fruition." Furthermore, dàoxīn also refers to one who practices the Buddhist path (佛道 [fu dao]) as a layperson (在家 [zai jia]). This is similar to one who is called 'yándào zhě' (言道者 [yan dao zhe]).
道心—【術語】稱於五道之心也。歸敬儀中曰：「福業不成，道心無涉。」
求菩提之心也。唐華嚴經十三曰：「普觀眾生發道心。」法華經義疏二曰：「菩提，云道，是無上正徧知果道也。」又道心者，言在家行佛道者也。與言道者同。
[shù yǔ] chēng yú wǔ dào zhī xīn yě. guī jìng yí zhōng yuē: “fú yè bù chéng, dào xīn wú shè.”

qiu pu ti zhi xin ye. tang hua yan jing shi san yue: "pu guan zhong sheng fa dao xin." fa hua jing yi shu er yue: "pu ti, yun dao, shi wu shang zheng bian zhi guo dao ye." you dao xin zhe, yan zai jia xing fu dao zhe ye. yu yan dao zhe tong.

道心 [dào xīn] [dao xin]—
1. Arises from the heart of righteousness and principle. From the Book of Documents (《書經 [shu jing]》), 'Counsels of Great Yu' (《大禹謨 [da yu mo]》): "The human mind (人心 [ren xin]) is precarious, the mind of the Way is subtle; be refined, be unified, sincerely hold fast to the Mean." From the History of Song (《宋史 [song shi]》), Volume 410, Biographies, 'Shu Lin' (《舒璘 [shu lin]》): "Yang Jian (楊簡 [yang jian]) said that Lin (璘 [lin]) was filial, friendly, loyal, and honest, and his mind of the Way was clear and enlightened. Lou Yue (樓鑰 [lou yao]) said that Lin's (璘 [lin]) attitude towards people was like the warm spring sunshine."
2. The heart that seeks the Way or the heart that comprehends the Way. Tang Dynasty (唐 [tang]) Wang Jian's (王建 [wang jian]) poem 'On Donghua Temple' (〈題東華觀 [ti dong hua guan]〉): "With white hair, the mind of the Way is mature; in yellow robes, the immortal bones are light." Tang Dynasty (唐 [tang]) Zhang Yue's (張說 [zhang shuo]) poem 'On Yanhu Mountain Temple' (〈灉湖山寺 [yong hu shan si]〉): "In the desolate empty mountains, the mind of the Way arises; in the distant empty valleys, the sound of wild birds."
道心：1.發於義理之心。《書經．大禹謨》：「人心惟危，道心惟微，惟精惟一，允執厥中。」《宋史．卷四一○．列傳．舒璘》：「楊簡謂璘孝友忠實，道心融明。樓鑰謂璘之於人，如熙然之陽春。」
2.求道之心或悟道之心。唐．王建〈題東華觀〉詩：「白髮道心熟，黃衣仙骨輕。」唐．張說〈灉湖山寺〉詩：「空山寂歷道心生，虛谷迢遙野鳥聲。」
