Ḍāc (डाच्).—tad. affix आ (ā) applied to dissyllabic words, used as imitation of sounds, or used as onomatopoetic, when connected with the root कृ (kṛ) or भू (bhū) or अम् (am). The word to which डाच् (ḍāc) is applied becomes generally doubled; c. g पटपटाकरोति, पटपटाभवति पटपटास्यात् (paṭapaṭākaroti, paṭapaṭābhavati paṭapaṭāsyāt); cf. P.V.4.57. The affix डाच् (ḍāc) is also applied to द्वितीय, तृतीय (dvitīya, tṛtīya), to compound words formed of a numeral and the word गुण (guṇa), as also to the words सपत्र, निष्पत्र, सुख, प्रिच (sapatra, niṣpatra, sukha, prica) etc when these words are connected with the root कृ (kṛ);e.g. द्वितीयाकरोति,तृतीया करोति, द्विगुणाकरोति, सपत्राकरोति, सुखाकरोति (dvitīyākaroti, tṛtīyā karoti, dviguṇākaroti, sapatrākaroti, sukhākaroti) etc.; cf.P.V.4. 58 to 67.
