The sixteen essential ceremonials in the life of a person, karuppātāṉam, puñcavaṉam, cīmantam, uṉṉayaṉam, cātakaṉmam, nāmakaraṇam, upaniṣkiramaṇam, aṉṉa-p-pirācaṉam, cauḷam, upanayaṉam, makānāmi-yam, makāviratam, upaniṣattu, cōpaṉam, uttu-vakaṉam, miruti; கருப்பாதானம் புஞ்சவனம் சீமந்தம் உன்னயனம் சாதகன்மம் நாமகரணம் உப நிஷ்கிரமணம் அன்னப்பிராசனம் சௌளம் உப நயனம் மகாநாமியம் மகாவிரதம் உபநிஷத்து சோபனம் உத்துவகனம் மிருதி என்னும் பதினாறுவகை ஸம்ஸ்காரங்கள்.
