捶胸頓足 [chuí xiōng dùn zú] [chui xiong dun zu]—
Beating one's chest and stamping one's feet. Describes extreme grief, indignation, or regret. Example from "The Romance of the Heroes" (英烈傳 [ying lie chuan]), Chapter 37: "The Great Ancestor (太祖 [tai zu]) beat his chest and stamped his feet, exclaiming, 'Alas! Six valiant generals (虎將 [hu jiang]) will be trapped in the Han traitors' formation.'" Also written as "捶胸跌腳 [chui xiong die jiao]".
捶胸頓足:捶打胸膛,以腳跺地。形容極為悲憤或悔恨。《英烈傳》第三七回:「太祖捶胸頓足,叫說:『可惜!六員虎將將陷于漢賊陣中。』」也作「捶胸跌腳」。
