愴惻 [chuàng cè] [chuang ce]—
Miserable and sorrowful. From Wen Xuan (文選 [wen xuan]), Pan Yue's (潘岳 [pan yue]) "Ode to a Widow" (寡婦賦 [gua fu fu]): "Thoughts are entangled and confused, the heart is broken and filled with grief." Tang Dynasty, Dai Shulun's (戴叔倫 [dai shu lun]) poem "On the Road to Chongde" (崇德道中 [chong de dao zhong]): "The bright moon arrives at the mountain pass, a sorrowful journey of ten years."
愴惻:悽慘傷痛。《文選.潘岳.寡婦賦》:「思纏綿以瞀亂兮,心摧傷以愴惻。」唐.戴叔倫〈崇德道中〉詩:「關山明月到,愴惻十年遊。」
