吃飯防噎 [chī fàn fáng yē] [chi fan fang ye]—
(Proverb) Prevent food from choking the throat while eating. It is a metaphor for being cautious in doing things. Water Margin Chapter 10: "Just be careful to guard against him. Haven't you heard the ancients say, 'Prevent choking while eating (, chī fàn fáng yē), prevent falling while walking (走路防跌 [zou lu fang die], zǒu lù fáng diē).'"
吃飯防噎：（諺語）吃飯時預防食物哽住喉嚨。比喻做事要審慎。《水滸傳》第一○回：「只要隄防他便了。豈不聞古人言：『吃飯防噎，走路防跌。』」
