尺八 [chǐ bā] [chi ba]—
Musical instrument name: (1) A traditional Chinese wind instrument. A type of vertical flute. Played by blowing directly into it, the pipe body has six holes, with one hole on the side covered with a bamboo membrane (竹膜 [zhu mo]). Named for its length of one foot and eight inches. Similar to the vertical flute (洞簫 [dong xiao]) used in Southern Music (南管 [nan guan]). (2) A traditional Japanese wind instrument. Introduced from the Tang Dynasty (唐朝 [tang chao]), it later gradually flourished and became one of the most common traditional instruments. It has four holes on the front and one hole on the back.
尺八:樂器名:(1)中國傳統吹管樂器。一種簫管。直吹,管身六孔,旁有一孔,加竹膜。長一尺八寸而得名。近似南管中所使用的洞簫。(2)日本傳統吹管樂器。唐朝時傳入,後來逐漸興旺,成為普遍的傳統樂器之一。面四孔,背一孔。

斥罷 [chì bà] [chi ba]—
Removal from office. "Book of Han, Volume 89, Biography of Model Officials, Zhao Xin Chen": "The sons of officials in the prefectures and counties were fond of idleness and did not engage in farming. He would immediately dismiss (之 [zhi] chì bà zhī) them. In severe cases, he would investigate their illegal activities to show his likes and dislikes."
斥罷:罷免職務。《漢書.卷八九.循吏傳.召信臣傳》:「府縣吏家子弟好游敖,不以田作為事,輒斥罷之,甚者案其不法,以視好惡。」
