chāṭaṇēṃ (छाटणें).—v c ( H) To clip, cut, pare, cut off. 2 To pick, sort, part off; to separate into classes. Ex. vyāpārī lōka phaḷēṃ sarasakaṭa ghēūna chāṭūna vikitāta. 3 To wash (clothes) slightly, i. e. without putting them into the boiler. 4 To cut clean asunder; to cut smack through; as gaḷā chāṭalā or taravārīnēṃ cāra kēḷī chāṭalyā. 5 To knock off; to remove dirt, straws, rubbish &c. by some light and smart process. Ex. halavāyājavaḷa sākhara dilhī mhaṇajē maḷa chāṭūna dēīla; dēśacē pāṇyānēṃ vastrācā maḷa kasā chāṭatō! 6 To reduce or retrench (allowances, expenses):
