Chardinigrahaṇa (छर्दिनिग्रहण) is the Sanskrit name for a group of medicinal plants, classified as “relieving vomitting”, and originally composed by Caraka in his Carakasaṃhitā sūtrasthāna IV. The name is derived from the words chardi, translating to “vomitting”, and nigrahaṇa, referring to “suppressing”, “holding down”. It is a technical term used throughout Āyurveda. Examples of plants pertaining to this category include Jambu (Eugenia jambolana), Āmra (mango), Mātuluṅga (Citrus medica), Amlavadara (a variety of Zizyphus). The collection of herbs named Chardinigrahaṇa is one of the fifty Mahākaṣāya.
