Commonplace remarks. 《History of the Southern Dynasties, Volume 62, Biography of Bao Quan》 (南史 [nan shi].卷六二 [juan liu er].鮑泉傳 [bao quan chuan]): "Your words are merely the common talk of scholars (文士 [wen shi])." Qing Dynasty, Mei Zengliang, "Preface to the Poetry Collection of Baijian Mountain Studio" (清 [qing].梅曾亮 [mei ceng liang]〈柏梘山房詩集自序 [bai jian shan fang shi ji zi xu]〉): "To regard commonplace talk as talented words, and to consider violent jokes (暴謔 [bao xue]) as lofty speech (高言 [gao yan]), this is yet another form of blindness."

Talk to one's heart's content. From the thirteenth chapter of The Travels of Lao Ts'an (老殘遊記 [lao can you ji]): "In the provincial capital, you are busy and I am busy, we always want to changtan (, talk freely), but we never have time." From the forty-sixth chapter of A Brief History of Civilization (文明小史 [wen ming xiao shi]): "We are about to part, and we want to changtan (, talk freely) with Yigong (軼公 [yi gong]), to learn all the strategies, so as to avoid being unprepared when the time comes."

暢談:盡情的談話。《老殘遊記》第一三回:「在省城裡,你忙我也忙,總想暢談,總沒有個空兒。」《文明小史》第四六回:「我們分袂在即,正要與軼公暢談,領教一切機宜,以免臨時竭蹶。」
