禪尼 [chan ni]—Chánní — [Miscellaneous Term] A female renunciant. 'Chán' (禪 [chan]) means to enter the gate of dhyāna (禪定 [chan ding]). 'Ní' (尼 [ni]) is a Sanskrit (梵語 [fan yu]) sound indicating a female, therefore it is translated as 'woman' (女 [nu]).
禪尼—【雜語】女性之出家者。禪為入禪定門之義。尼為梵語示女性之聲,故譯曰女。
[zá yǔ] nǚ xìng zhī chū jiā zhě. chán wèi rù chán dìng mén zhī yì. ní wèi fàn yǔ shì nǚ xìng zhī shēng, gù yì yuē nǚ.
