Chadman (छद्मन्) refers to that which is “concealed”, according to the Jayadrathayāmala verse 3.38.22-24ab.—Accordingly, “Those gods who reside in sacred fields and seats, primary and secondary, and those powerful beings who are in the meeting grounds, primary and secondary, move about, O beloved, concealed [i.e., chadman] in the form of falcons (cillā) and the like, their actions, mantras and powers (kept) secret. Who knows what takes place within the body by that activity”.

Chadman (छद्मन्) refers to “(under the) pretext” and is used to describe Śiva, according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.3.26 (“Pārvatī-Jaṭila dialogue”).—Accordingly, as Brahmā narrated to Nārada: “When those sages returned to their abodes, lord Śiva, the cause of great enjoyment and protection wanted to test the penance of the goddess. Under the pretext of [i.e., chadman] testing, Śiva wanted to see her. With a delighted mind He assumed the form of a Jaṭila (an ascetic with matted hair) and went to the forest of penance of Pārvatī. [...]”.
