Source: Sutta: The Pali Text Society's Pali-English DictionaryChabaggiya refers to: (=vaggiya) forming a group of six, a set of (sinful) Bhikkhus taken as exemplification of trespassing the rules of the Vinaya (cp. Oldenberg, Buddha 7384). Their names are Assaji, Punabhasu, Paṇḍuka, Lohitaka, Mettiya, Bhummajaka Vin.II, 1, 77, and passim; J.II, 387; DhA.III, 330.
Note: chabaggiya is a Pali compound consisting of the words cha and baggiya.
Pali is the language of the Tipiṭaka, which is the sacred canon of Theravāda Buddhism and contains much of the Buddha’s speech. Closeley related to Sanskrit, both languages are used interchangeably between religions.
