caughē (चौघे).—a (pl masc. The fem is caughī or ghyā and the neut caughēṃ or ghīṃ) Four. There is a difference betwixt this word and cāra. This is used only of animated objects and of human beings especially. 2 A few, three or four. 3 The public, the world, the people, society. Ex. caughācā-vicāra-buddhi-rīti. caughāñcī vāṭa tī āmacī or āpalī vāṭa The general way that is our way. caughānta jāvēṃ lāgatēṃ One must go out amongst the people. caughānta basaṇēṃ To dwell in society or to sustain public life. caughāṃvara tāna ghēṇēṃ To dispute or disallow a public decision; i. e. to sing in a higher key: also to excel the multitude; to go a note beyond. Used both angrily and in sober commendation.
