Saka Mahakshatrapa Chashtana (or, Cashtana), a junior contemporary of Nahapana also founded his independent kingdom in Gujarat and invaded on Ujjain and Maharashtra. Thus, Chashtana founded a powerful Saka kingdom in western India and established an epoch in 583 BCE that came to be known as the Saka era. Chashtana and his descendants reigned in western India for 336 years from 583 BCE to 247 BCE. Gupta King Chandragupta II comprehensively defeated western kshatraps and expanded the Gupta empire up to Girnar, Gujarat.
