Source: Wisdom Library: Maha Prajnaparamita SastraCāritramati (चारित्रमति) is the name of the Bodhisattva of the Upaśantā universe according to the 2nd century Mahāprajñāpāramitāśāstra (chapter XV). Accordingly, “In the west (paścima), beyond universes as numerous as the sands of the Ganges and at the extreme limit of these universes, there is a universe called Mie ngo (Upaśantā); its Buddha is called Pao chan (Ratnārcis) and its Bodhisattva Yi pi (Cāritramati)”.
Mahayana (महायान, mahāyāna) is a major branch of Buddhism focusing on the path of a Bodhisattva (spiritual aspirants/ enlightened beings). Extant literature is vast and primarely composed in the Sanskrit language. There are many sūtras of which some of the earliest are the various Prajñāpāramitā sūtras.
