採菽氏 [cai shu shi]—Cǎi Shū Shì — This is a translated name for the Buddhist disciple Moggallāna (目乾連 [mu gan lian]). Huìlín Yīnyì (慧琳音義 [hui lin yin yi]) Volume 6 states: "Cǎi Shū Shì is an ancient translation (古譯 [gu yi]) from Sanskrit (梵語 [fan yu]), referring to Dà Mùgānlián (大目乾連 [da mu gan lian]), which is a corrupted and inaccurate abbreviation. The correct Sanskrit (梵語 [fan yu]) is Móhēmòtègāluó (摩訶沒特伽羅 [mo he mei te jia luo]). In Tang (唐 [tang]) Dynasty Chinese, it was called Dà Cǎi Shū Shì (大 [da]), popularly known as Lùdòuzi (菉豆子 [lu dou zi]), which was the title of an ancient immortal (仙人 [xian ren]). Moggallāna (目乾連 [mu gan lian]) belonged to this lineage of immortals. He was also known as Jùlìjiā (俱利迦 [ju li jia]) (Kulika), or Jūlìduō (拘隸多 [ju li duo]), or Jùlǜtuó (俱律陀 [ju lu tuo]); all are names for the same person." Sanskrit: Mahā Maudgalyāyana.
