buṭī (बुटी).—f ( H) A medicinal herb, a simple. 2 Figured work (flowers, leaves, springs) upon cloth &c. 3 A term for any secret and marvelous remedy or cure, such as empirics and charlatans profess to have; a nostrum. 4 Applied also to a stock or fund (as of money or wit) ready for any exigency. 5 Fragments of būṭa or hemptops. 6 (In Canarese but fast becoming naturalized.) A pāṇṭī or basket. buṭī dēṇēṃ To give some clandestine incentive or spur.
