布告 [bù gào] [bu gao]—
1. To announce to the public (通告大眾 [tong gao da zhong]). For example: "(announce) to the county residents (縣民 [xian min]) to make it widely known (周知 [zhou zhi])." Chapter 2 of Romance of the Three Kingdoms (《三國演義 [san guo yan yi]》): "Dispatching envoys to make an announcement to the world (天下 [tian xia]), stating that those with merit (有功者 [you gong zhe]) would be heavily rewarded (重加賞賜 [zhong jia shang ci])." Also written as 佈告 [bu gao].
2. A type of document (文書 [wen shu]) posted (張貼 [zhang tie]) to inform the public (通告大眾 [tong gao da zhong]). For example: "A (notice) for a house for rent (吉屋出租 [ji wu chu zu]) was posted at the entrance (門口 [men kou])." Also written as 佈告 [bu gao].
