Bṛhatsaṃjñā (बृहत्संज्ञा).—The same as महत्संज्ञा (mahatsaṃjñā) or महती संज्ञा (mahatī saṃjñā); a bigger terminology as contrasted with लघुसंज्ञा (laghusaṃjñā) brief terminology such as टि, घु, भ (ṭi, ghu, bha) etc. for which (latter) Panini is very particular. The bigger terms such as सर्वनाम, आत्मनेपद, परस्मैपद (sarvanāma, ātmanepada, parasmaipada) and others are evidently borrowed by Panini from the ancient grammarians who lived before him.
