Bṛhacchabdaratna (बृहच्छब्दरत्न).—A learned commentary on the commentary मनोरमा (manoramā) of भट्टोजीदीक्षित (bhaṭṭojīdīkṣita); the commentary was written by हरिदीक्षित (haridīkṣita) the grandson of Bhattoji. The work is called बृहच्छब्दरत्न (bṛhacchabdaratna) in contrast with the लघुशब्दरत्न (laghuśabdaratna) of the same author (हरिदीक्षित (haridīkṣita)) which is generally studied at the Pathasalas all over the country. The work बृहच्छब्दरत्न (bṛhacchabdaratna) is only in a Manuscript form at present. Some scholars believe that it was written by Nagesabhatta, who ascribed it to his preceptor Hari Diksita, but the belief is not correct as proved by a reference in the Laghusabdaratna, where the author himself remarks that he himself has written the बृहच्छब्दरत्न (bṛhacchabdaratna), and internal evidences show that लबुशब्दरत्न (labuśabdaratna) is sometimes a word-forword summary of the बृहच्छब्दरत्न (bṛhacchabdaratna). cf.विस्तरस्तु अस्मत्कृते बृहच्छब्दरत्ने मदन्तेवासि-वृतलधुशब्देन्दुशेखरे च द्रष्टव्यः (vistarastu asmatkṛte bṛhacchabdaratne madantevāsi-vṛtaladhuśabdenduśekhare ca draṣṭavyaḥ) Laghusabdaratna.
