Source: archive.org: Nilamata Purana: a cultural and literary study (history)Bopfau refers to a festival that once existed in ancient Kashmir (Kaśmīra) as mentioned in the Nīlamatapurāṇa and the Rājataraṅgiṇī.—The dances performed at the great festival of the Bopfau or Barley Seed-sowing, in Hunza in the neighbourhood of Kaśmīra, have been regarded by Mrs. Lorimer as imitating the actual agricultural process. Similar dances might have been performed at the Seed-sowing ceremony referred to in the Nīlamata.
