1. Describes being severely beaten (挨揍得很嚴重 [ai zou de hen yan zhong]). For example: "He was beaten so badly that he screamed as if a layer of skin (一層皮 [yi ceng pi]) had been peeled off (剝 [bo]) him."
2. A metaphor for skimming off a profit (揩了一分油水 [kai le yi fen you shui]). From Chapter 56 (第五六回 [di wu liu hui]) of Dream of the Red Chamber (紅樓夢 [hong lou meng]): "When it comes to year-end accounting (算帳 [suan zhang]) and money collection, it naturally goes to the accounts office (帳房 [zhang fang]).
