扁擬穀盜蟲 [biǎn nǐ gǔ dào chóng] [bian ni gu dao chong]—
Animal name (動物名 [dong wu ming]). Class Insecta (昆蟲綱 [kun chong gang]), Order Coleoptera (鞘翅目 [qiao chi mu]). A common pest (害蟲 [hai chong]) found in grains (穀物 [gu wu]). It is small, about three millimeters in size, coffee-colored, with a lifespan of approximately one month, but possessing a strong reproductive capacity. The insect body (蟲體 [chong ti]) itself causes no obvious harm, but its feces (糞便 [fen bian]) and other excretions (排洩物 [pai xie wu]) may possess a considerable degree of toxicity (毒性 [du xing]).
