From Liu Yuxi's (劉禹錫 [liu yu xi]) "Record of Restoring Jingmen County" (復荊門縣記 [fu jing men xian ji]) from the Tang Dynasty (唐 [tang]): "In the past, [we] drank from a muddy pool (洿 [wu]), which was turbid (溷 [hun]) in summer and dry (枯 [ku]) in winter; since the official's (公 [gong]) compassionate intervention (感通 [gan tong]), the gushing spring has appeared (生兮 [sheng xi])."
