Vyakarana (Sanskrit grammar)
Bhautapūrvya (भौतपूर्व्य).—The consideration that a thing was such and such a one formerly, and hence liable to undergo grammatical operations on that ground; cf. कृत एत्त्वे भौत-पूर्व्यात् । भिस ऐस् । (kṛta ettve bhauta-pūrvyāt | bhisa ais |) M. Bh. on P. VII. 1. 9.
Vyakarana (व्याकरण, vyākaraṇa) refers to Sanskrit grammar and represents one of the six additional sciences (vedanga) to be studied along with the Vedas. Vyakarana concerns itself with the rules of Sanskrit grammar and linguistic analysis in order to establish the correct context of words and sentences.
