Vedanta (school of philosophy)
Source: Hindupedia: The Hindu Encyclopedia (vedanta)Bhartṛprapañca (भर्तृप्रपञ्च) was a propagator of one of the “lesser-known schools of Vedānta”.—The Vedānta system is the most well-known out of the six systems of philosophy. Śaṅkara (A. D. 788-820), Rāmānuja (A. D. 1017-1137) and Madhva (A. D. 1197-1276) were the pioneers in the three schools of Vedānta, viz., advaita, viśiṣtādvaita and dvaita. However, there are other though less-known schools of Vedānta, the propagators of some of which preceded even Śaṅkara. Bhartṛprapañca was one such. Practically nothing is known of him except that he taught ‘bhedābheda-vāda,’ the doctrine of ‘identity in difference’.

Vedanta (वेदान्त, vedānta) refers to a school of orthodox Hindu philosophy (astika), drawing its subject-matter from the Upanishads. There are a number of sub-schools of Vedanta, however all of them expound on the basic teaching of the ultimate reality (brahman) and liberation (moksha) of the individual soul (atman).
