Source: Wikisource: A dictionary of Sanskrit grammarBhakṣyaniyama (भक्ष्यनियम).—Restriction regarding edibles of a particular kind. The word is quoted to illustrate the नियमविधि (niyamavidhi) or restrictive rule in grammar. Although the restriction in the instance पञ्च पञ्चनखा भक्ष्याः (pañca pañcanakhā bhakṣyāḥ) is of the kind of परिसंख्या (parisaṃkhyā) and called परिसंख्या (parisaṃkhyā), and not नियम (niyama), by the Mimamsakas, the grammarians call it a niyamavidhi. There is no परि-संख्याविधि (pari-saṃkhyāvidhi) according to grammarians; they cite only two kinds of vidhi viz. simple vidhi or apurva vidhi and niyamavidhi.
Vyakarana (व्याकरण, vyākaraṇa) refers to Sanskrit grammar and represents one of the six additional sciences (vedanga) to be studied along with the Vedas. Vyakarana concerns itself with the rules of Sanskrit grammar and linguistic analysis in order to establish the correct context of words and sentences.
