背念 [bei nian]—(bèi niàn) — [Technical Term, 術語 [shu yu]] This refers to the thought or mindfulness of being weary of and turning away from samsara (厭背生死 [yan bei sheng si]) and abiding peacefully in Nirvana (涅槃 [nie pan]).
The "瑜伽论记六下 [yu jia lun ji liu xia]" (Yújiā Lùn Jì liù xià) states: "The aspiration to seek liberation from the world (念求出世 [nian qiu chu shi]) and to go against samsara (違背生死 [wei bei sheng si]) is why it is called '' (bèi niàn). It is the mind that turns its back on samsara and abides peacefully in the thought of undefiled (無漏 [wu lou]) Nirvana."
背念—【術語】厭背生死安住於涅槃之念也。瑜伽論記六下曰:「念求出世違背生死,故言背念所背生死之心,安住無漏涅槃之念。」
