版築 [bǎn zhú] [ban zhu]—
1. When building walls, two boards are used to clamp earth, and a pestle is used to tamp the earth solid. This is called "" (bǎn zhù). From "《孟子 [meng zi].告子下 [gao zi xia]》" (Mèngzǐ: Gào Zǐ Xià): "Shun (舜 [shun]) rose from among the fields, and Fu Yue (傅說 [fu shuo]) was called forth from among the (bǎn zhù)." Also written as "板築 [ban zhu]" (bǎn zhù).
2. A metaphor for people of low status. Also written as "板築 [ban zhu]" (bǎn zhù).
版築:1.築牆時,用兩版夾土,以杵把土搗實,稱為「版築」。《孟子.告子下》:「舜發於畎畝之中,傅說舉於版築之間。」也作「板築」。
