Source: Shodhganga: The significance of the mūla-beras (śilpa)Balasubrahmaṇya Svāmi is the name of a deity depicted in the Subramanya Swamy Temple (or Subrahmaṇya Svāmi Temple) in Tiruchendur (or Tirucendur/Tirucentur), representing a sacred place for the worship of Murugan.—Balasubrahmaṇya is found in standing posture with four hands. The upper hands hold vajra and śakti in the right and the left hands in kartarīmukha-hasta. The lower hands hold varada-hasta in the right hand and the left hand holds urū-hasta. While depicting in dance, Balasubrahmaṇya is found in vaiśākha-maṇḍala and with four hands where the upper hands are in kartarīmukha-hasta and the lower right hand is in patāka inverted and the lower left hand is in ardhacandra-hasta placed on the thigh.
