把弄 [bǎ nòng] [ba nong]—
To fiddle with, to play with, to toy with, to handle. For example: "The little boy was fiddling with a baseball (棒球 [bang qiu]) in his glove." From Anthology of the Patriarchal Hall (祖堂集 [zu tang ji]), Volume 7, Monk Jiashan (夾山和尚 [jia shan he shang]): "Fiddling around at the gate (門前 [men qian]) is not as good as this old monk's profound discussion (老僧入理之譚 [lao seng ru li zhi tan])." From Song Dynasty (宋 [song]) poet Lu You (陸游 [lu you]), Poem Five of 'Composed playfully in five-character, seven-stanza style, marking the almost daily mountain excursions and poetry writing after entering autumn' (入秋遊山賦詩略無闕日戲作五字七首識之 [ru qiu you shan fu shi lue wu que ri xi zuo wu zi qi shou shi zhi]): "Next year I will be eighty (明年即八十 [ming nian ji ba shi]), time (日月 [ri yue]) is difficult to control (難 [nan])."
把弄:玩弄、把玩。如:「小男孩拿了一顆棒球在手套裡把弄著。」《祖堂集.卷七.夾山和尚》:「門前把弄,不如老僧入理之譚。」宋.陸游〈入秋遊山賦詩略無闕日戲作五字七首識之〉詩之五:「明年即八十,日月難把弄。」
