Traditional practice of Āyurveda in ancient India dates back to at least the first millenium BC. Literature is commonly written in Sanskrit using various poetic metres.

Ayodaṇḍa is a Sanskrit compound consisting of the terms ayas and daṇḍa (दण्ड).
