avaḷaṇēṃ (अवळणें).—v i (ā & valana S) To shrink, shrivel, contract, draw in or up. 2 To become firm and compact; to consolidate or set--a mud building &c: to become dense and close--the soil as from rain under citrā: to be constringed, braced, tightened, closed in--the gums or teeth by lotions or gold fastenings: to get full, plump, distended and promising--a crop through timely rain: to fatten or flourish--a meagre animal on good feeding; a pauper upon improvement of circumstances. Note. In some of the above applications the verb is occasionally transitive.
