Avakāśati (अवकाशति).—(ms. °sati; denom. to avakāśa), gets a chance at, works upon, with loc.: Avadāna-śataka ii.183.13 nāgniḥ kāye 'vakāśati; caus. °śayati, gdve. °śayitavyaḥ, to be given a chance to work (in a certain function), Mūla-Sarvāstivāda-Vinaya ii.154.12, where probably read a negative before it; this is read by em. in text in line 18, where, it seems to me, the neg. is not wanted.

context information

Sanskrit, also spelled संस्कृतम् (saṃskṛtam), is an ancient language of India commonly seen as the grandmother of the Indo-European language family (even English!). Closely allied with Prakrit and Pali, Sanskrit is more exhaustive in both grammar and terms and has the most extensive collection of literature in the world, greatly surpassing its sister-languages Greek and Latin.
