Avadhū (अवधू).—5 U.

1) To shake, move, wave, cause to tremble; रेणुः पवनावधूतः (reṇuḥ pavanāvadhūtaḥ) R.7.43; लीलावधूतैः चामरैः (līlāvadhūtaiḥ cāmaraiḥ) Me. 37; Rs.6.15; Kirātārjunīya 6.3; Śiśupālavadha 13.36.

2) To shake off or out, shake, toss (lit. and fig.), remove (fig. also); overcome, get the better of; राजसत्वमवधूय मातृकम् (rājasatvamavadhūya mātṛkam) R.11. 9; सुरवधूरवधूतभयाः शरैः (suravadhūravadhūtabhayāḥ śaraiḥ) 9.19 removing the fears of; अवधूय तद्वयथाम् (avadhūya tadvayathām) 3.61; व्रजन्ति शत्रूनवधूय निःस्पृहाः शमेन सिद्धिं मुनयो न भूभृतः (vrajanti śatrūnavadhūya niḥspṛhāḥ śamena siddhiṃ munayo na bhūbhṛtaḥ) Kirātārjunīya 1.42; रुषावधूय रक्षांसि (ruṣāvadhūya rakṣāṃsi) Rām.
