Ātmapūrvāpara (आत्मपूर्वापर).—adj., perhaps having continuity with itself: Mahāvastu ii.1.13—14 °raṃ ca taṃ kulaṃ bhavati, of the family in which the Bodhisattva is born. Corresponds to labdha-pūrvāpara Mahāvastu i.198.3; not in corresponding passage Lalitavistara p. 24. Senart keeps the form with mss., but in his note suggests that it is false Sanskritization of MIndic atta- = ātta- (synonym of labdha-).

context information

Sanskrit, also spelled संस्कृतम् (saṃskṛtam), is an ancient language of India commonly seen as the grandmother of the Indo-European language family (even English!). Closely allied with Prakrit and Pali, Sanskrit is more exhaustive in both grammar and terms and has the most extensive collection of literature in the world, greatly surpassing its sister-languages Greek and Latin.
