aṭharā pagaḍajāta (अठरा पगडजात).—f (The castes of the eighteen turbans.) A comprehensive term for the people; tout le monde, the canaille &c.: also for the Asiatic or turban-wearing nations, in contrad. from aṭharā ṭōpakara. 2 Some derive this word from aṭharā & pagaḍā A mark on a die. The last mark being eighteen, they explain the word in the sense, An indiscriminate multitude; a promiscuous assembly.
