Source: Shodhganga: The significance of the mūla-beras (śilpa)Āṭalaracu is the name of a deity depicted in the Jambukeswarar Temple in Tiruvānaikoyil (Thiruvanaikaval) which is one of the Pañcasabhā or “five halls where Śiva is said to have danced”.—Āṭalaracu (the king of dance) is one of the names of Lord Śiva. The posture of Āṭalaracu is the same as that of Naṭarāja in the Tillai Naṭarāja Temple to be discussed in detail later. Goddess Pārvatī is found to the left of Āṭalaracu.
Shilpashastra (शिल्पशास्त्र, śilpaśāstra) represents the ancient Indian science (shastra) of creative arts (shilpa) such as sculpture, iconography and painting. Closely related to Vastushastra (architecture), they often share the same literature.
