Asthiśalya (अस्थिशल्य) refers to an “extraneous thing in the form of a bone”, according to the Devyāmata (in the section śalyoddhāra-paṭala or “excavation of extraneous substances”).—Accordingly, “If [someone] scratches his head, [the officiant] should remove an extraneous thing at a depth of the full height of a man. On the other hand, it should be understood that the extraneous thing which is a bone (asthiśalya) exists [at a depth of] a half [of the height] of a man [underground] [...]”.
