Aṣṭasiṃha (अष्टसिंह) [=siṃhāṣṭaka?] refers to the “group of the eight Lions” (of the Mothers of the Kulas), according to the Manthānabhairavatantra, a vast sprawling work that belongs to a corpus of Tantric texts concerned with the worship of the goddess Kubjikā.—Accordingly, “[...] Above it, divided into hidden and revealed, are the twelve accomplishments. Conjoined to the Krama of Twenty-eight, it is adorned with the three Lineages. There, the radiance of the maṇḍala is encompassed by the group of the eight Lions (siṃhāṣṭaka-parivṛta) (of the Mothers of the Kulas). (It is endowed with) the group of eight Houses, Kulācāra, the eight sacred seats and the sixty-four energies and is the arising of the sequence of eighty-six.
