Arthya (अर्थ्य).—a. [arth-karmaṇi ṇyat]

1) Fit to be asked or sought for.

2) [arthādanapetaḥ, artha-yat] Fit, proper, suitable; अर्थ्यो विरोधः (arthyo virodhaḥ) Mv.2.7.

3) Appropriate, not deviating from the sense, significant; स्तुत्यं स्तुतिभिरर्थ्या- भिरुपतस्थे सरस्वती (stutyaṃ stutibhirarthyā- bhirupatasthe sarasvatī) R.4.6,1.59; Kumārasambhava 2.3.

4) Rich, wealthy.

5) Wise, intelligent.

6) True, real; अर्थ्यं विज्ञापयन्नेव भरतं सत्यविक्रमम् (arthyaṃ vijñāpayanneva bharataṃ satyavikramam) Rām.6.127.25.

7) Expert in getting money (arthasaṃpādanacatura); अर्थी येनार्थकृत्येन संव्रजत्यविचारयन् । तमर्थमर्थशास्त्रज्ञाः प्राहुरर्थ्याः सुलक्ष्मण (arthī yenārthakṛtyena saṃvrajatyavicārayan | tamarthamarthaśāstrajñāḥ prāhurarthyāḥ sulakṣmaṇa) || Rām. 3.43.34.
