Source: Google Books: The History of Sacred Places in India1) Arkasthala (अर्कस्थल) is mentioned by Lakṣmīdhara as a place where there was a well and where the twelve Ādityas could be seen. In adhyāya 155 of the Varāhapurāṇa this well is called Saptasāmudrikākūpa.
2) Arkasthala (अर्कस्थल) might have referred to the bathing place upstream called Sūryatīrtha, which is either the same as adjacent to a Vaṭasvāmītīrtha mentioned in some other texts, or a Sūrya temple in the Antapāṛā quarter, in the southern part of the old town.
