Source: Wisdom Library: Nāṭya-śāstraArdhamāyūrī (अर्धमायूरी) refers to one of the three mārjanā: rules used in the playing of drums (puṣkara) [with reference to Mṛdaṅga, Paṇava and Dardura] according to the Nāṭyaśāstra chapter 33. Accordingly, “notes in the māyūrī-mārjanā are gāndhāra in the yāmaka, and ṣaḍja in the dakṣiṇa-puṣkara and madhyama in the ūrdhavaka”. Also, “the ardha-māyūrī will be in the ṣāḍja-grāma”.
Natyashastra (नाट्यशास्त्र, nāṭyaśāstra) refers to both the ancient Indian tradition (shastra) of performing arts, (natya—theatrics, drama, dance, music), as well as the name of a Sanskrit work dealing with these subjects. It also teaches the rules for composing Dramatic plays (nataka), construction and performance of Theater, and Poetic works (kavya).
