ardhala (अर्धल).—& ardhalyā See ardhēla & ardhalyā.

--- OR ---

ardhālā (अर्धाला).—a (ardhā) Half. Used with reference to the individuals severally of a number, or to the members or parts severally of a whole or mass. Ex. hē pañcavīsa āmbē pannāsa māṇasāṃlā vāṭūna dyāvē tara a0 āmbā dyāvā If we would divide these twenty-five mangoes among fifty men, we must give a half-mango to each; a0 khāmba pura Fix the posts, each half deep. As ardhāvā(halfth) is the ordinal, so ardhālā is the distributive, of ardhā. As all the adjectives terminating in ā, although with varying degrees of currency or neatness, (e. g. mōṭhā, thōralā, lāhanēlā, vēgaḷā, cāṅgalā, kāḷā, pāṇḍharā, pivaḷā, asalā, kasalā, ēvaḍhā, kēvaḍhā, itakā, kitakā &c.,) assume and become distributives, such formations, however regular and right, and however declarative of the power of the Maraṭhi language, are, except this instance, omitted.
