Apoh (अपोह्).—U. [अप-उह् (apa-uh) or ऊह् (ūh)]

1) To remove, drive or push away, dispel, take away, destroy; स हि विघ्नान- पोहति (sa hi vighnāna- pohati) Ś.3.1; कुसुमानि (kusumāni)...प्रभवन्त्यायुरपोहितुं यदि (prabhavantyāyurapohituṃ yadi) R.8.44,54; पूर्वमुत्सवमपौहदुत्सवः (pūrvamutsavamapauhadutsavaḥ) (uttaraḥ) 19.5 pushed away, displaced, supplanted; मनसिजरुजं सा वा दिव्या ममालमपोहितुम् (manasijarujaṃ sā vā divyā mamālamapohitum) V.3.1; अकिञ्चिदपि कुर्वाणः सौख्यैर्दुःखान्यपोहति (akiñcidapi kurvāṇaḥ saukhyairduḥkhānyapohati) Uttararāmacarita 2.19 Removes; Bhaṭṭikāvya 17.83;15.119; Manusmṛti 8.414,11.18; कल्पनाया अपोढः कल्पनापोढः (kalpanāyā apoḍhaḥ kalpanāpoḍhaḥ) P.II.1.38 Sk. removed from, or beyond imagination

2) To heal, cure (as illness).

3) To avoid, give up, leave; सर्वान् रसानपोहेत (sarvān rasānapoheta) Manusmṛti 1.86; पञ्चवठ्यां ततो रामः (pañcavaṭhyāṃ tato rāmaḥ)...अनपोढस्थितिस्तस्थौ (anapoḍhasthitistasthau) R.12.31 not leaving (the path of) propriety.

4) To deny; स्थाप्यतेऽपोह्यते वा चेत् (sthāpyate'pohyate vā cet) S. D.73.

5) To reason, argue by way of opposing a statement.
